Emily Coursen

My name is Emily Coursen, and I’m thrilled to be announcing that I will be joining the team as a toddler teacher at Busy Bee Learning Center starting in January 2024 and wanted to take the time to introduce myself and tell you a little about me. I’m 32, and recently relocated from Dutchess County NY to the Northwest Corner of CT. I graduated from Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie NY in 2012 with a degree in Liberal Arts and Humanities. Since then, I have worked in various fields but continue to come back to caregiving and teaching positions. My personal philosophy on teaching youngsters is that all moments, no matter how seemingly trivial, can be teachable moments. Some tips I’ve learned along the way and intend to continue at Busy Bee, are cultivating independence and self esteem in children through positive reinforcement, and to temper negative attention seeking behaviors in utilizing redirection techniques while also encouraging and coaching the child on how to communicate their needs appropriately in those moments; all the while recognizing that every child is an individual and their own unique needs will dictate the way in which these strategies and others will be implemented.
